As an ardent setroppur of the Walia Antelopes, I'm left with a mixed feeling after the end of Cecafa 2010 tournament. The old habit of the national team, and the national clubs are still hanging around.First, the goal keepers are always prone to too many mistakes. They don't even hold air balls properly. They are poor in Punching balls far away, and slow in reflex. This can be due to the slow tempo of the games in the national league. Our defense lack, physical strength, stamina, speed, and above all commitment. They always struggle to suck sustained pressure up. They crack and dismantle fast. Their timing is average. Their marking is very poor. Their offside traps are easily surmountable. The midfield is where the strength of the team lies. They hold the ball properly, they can dribble well. Go forward fast when the team confidence is up. Their main problem is, they lack purpose. Holding the ball without creating chances give the other team the time to think about how to retaliate. The Goal from Ivory coast team shows how the mid-field can accelerate its own demise.Forwards: I think Shemeles and Oumed(normally he is a mid-field player) did their job well. Both players read each other well. I think both or Oumed are capable to play oversea in South Africa or in some European clubs. However, the other strikers are not effective. I don't know why Tafesse(Buna) isn't picked. Coach: The coach lost the plot when he picked two golie from the same club. It means both or one of them lack experience, since both can't play at the same time. He also kept the same players for the whole tournament. Given high temperature and humidity (Tanzania is near the Mediterranean sea) and the team played almost all the games in the early afternoon, the coach should have made a number of changes to give the other players experience and used players a break.I think the team has a great future if they improve their pitfuls. Particularly the goal keeper issue should be given much emphasis. The coach should also talk to Ethiopian/ Ethiopian-born players who play in Europe/USA.
